California set to reopen schools, gyms, bars and more on Friday
We now have a date for phase 3 of reopening from the coronavirus shutdown. Governor Newsom said it will start this Friday.
A busy day at Chill Bar on Arenas Road in Palm Springs as the owners and staff prepare to reopen.
“I think we are adjusting operationally, its not difficult but its something new and we’re scrambling around a little bit," said Rob Giescke.
Rob Giescke, Owner of Chill Bar, said he’s looking forward to Friday after making big changes to his menu including adding food service.
“Because we are obviously a bar and food is not our forte so we’re hoping we can open with at least reduced capacity but serving cocktails like we normally would do," said Giescke.
Giescke said he’s taken preventive measures.
“All the tables are six feet apart for social distancing, so groups that come together can sit at the table together," said Giescke. "If they get up to use the restroom or order a drink we ask them to put the mask back on."
"[There's] glass partitions to protect the bartenders, and people who are ordering the drinks," said Giescke.
Employees will also check customer temperatures when they enter the bar.
“I think its exciting and I think alot of people now are taking different precautions that they weren’t before so i think that we have enough information and knowledge to continue to have businesses open and running," said Ryan, a customer.
Not only are bars, schools, daycares and other businesses reopening but so are gyms and the owner at 24 Fit Fix gym tells News Channel 3 her team is working hard to implement the new lengthy guidelines they must follow when opening up their doors.
“They’re pretty strict it will have an affect on our business just because of spacing rules," said Natalie Napier. "We’ll have to close every other treadmill and other cardio equipment and remind the members to space themselves out.”
Natalie Napier, Owner of 24 Fit Fix gym said they can’t wait to finally open again Friday morning.
“We are really excited being closed for over two months has been hard on us and our members and the community that rely on us for them to have a place to focus on their health," said Napier.
The rules on schools and day camps will apply statewide. But only counties that have met certain thresholds on the number of cases, testing and preparedness will be allowed to start reopening.
The state will also issue guidance on hotels, casinos, museums, zoos and aquariums and the resumption of music, film and television production.
