“Save the Post Office” rally in Cathedral City
People across the country gathered for "Save the post office" rallies Saturday morning.
“Nationwide, in front of every local post office people were standing to show their support for their local post office and for DeJoy to restore everything that he took out," Becki Robinson one of the rallygoers in Cathedral City told News Channel 3. "Restore the sorting machines, restore the overtime, restore the sorting times, restore the mailboxes, unlock the mailboxes, bring it all back to the way it was before he started this,” she added.
There has been a lot of criticism over actions the postmaster general put into place were slowing down mail and that could have a big impact on the election.
“I want to ensure this committee and the American public that the postal service is fully capable and committed to delivering the nation's election mail securely and on time,” Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said.
Many rallygoers wore masks while holding up signs that read, “Save USPS.”
From Maine to Massachusetts, Connecticut, Washington D.C. and even here at home people were rallying.
“This is not about elections," Robinson said. "This is our post office. It’s about medication. It’s about checks. It’s about birthday cards. It’s about communication with people you haven’t seen in a while. It’s so much more," she said.
A small group gathered in front of the post office in Cathedral City.
Organizers of these rallies say they want to save the post office from President Trump and declare Postmaster General DeJoy resign.
Looking ahead Robinson said these rallies won’t end soon.
“I’m sure there will be more protests to come between now and election day and also after election day," she said.
