Shop Local: Small Business Saturday

After Black Friday, comes Small Business Saturday!

It's a day that focuses on shopping local and supporting small businesses.

“Shop local, shop small, keep us all in business," said Michael Stees, co-owner of Cold Nose Warm Heart.

Shoppers flocked to Palm Springs to enjoy the warm weather, and scratch some things off their to-do list.

Rather than making their way to big box stores, many decided to shop local.

“Sometimes things are even handmade which is has way more like detail and way more like care into those things. So i think it's even better that way,” said shopper Chantelle Sigala.

Especially after facing a tough year due to the pandemic, one shopper said it was hard seeing so many businesses close.

"I was like wow, is it going to be like this forever? Like you know, are we going to come through this. And you know, i just stayed hopeful," said Cindy, "I just seen things blooming and like coming to life again. I mean it really put me out of a dark space."

Many say now is a crucial time to support your local businesses.

A co-owner of pet supply shop Cold Nose Warm Heart, Michael Stees, saida fortunately business has picked up.

It’s one of the many stores that saw a surge in customers due to the busy Thanksgiving weekend.

“It’s very nice to see everyone back in the desert," said Stees, "smiling faces again, even though we’re all masked up but it was really great to see everyone back out again.”

As a small business owner, Stees said he understands the importance of shopping local and tries to do so himself.

“It's important to just support your local businesses and keep them in business because you know its part of the fabric of a community and you want to keep that intact,” added Stees.

With the holidays coming up, businesses are struggling with labor and supply shortages along with shipping delays.

So if you’re trying to get some holiday shopping done, businesses are urging you to come on in and avoid those delivery delays before it’s too late.
