Firebirds suffer shootout loss to Reign, drop third straight game

Call it a February funk for the Firebirds.

Coachella Valley has now lost three straight games after suffering a 3-2 shootout loss to the Ontario Reign on Monday afternoon.

Tye Kartye and Max McCormick netted the goals for the Firebirds in front of 7,508 fans at Acrisure Arena.

The game needed overtime plus a shootout to decide a winner. Samuel Fagemo netted the lone goal in the shootout to secure the extra point for Ontario.

Joey Daccord (19-6-3) made 26 saves on 28 shots. The Firebirds’ powerplay went 1-for-5 and the penalty kill finished 3-for-4. The shootout loss moves Coachella Valley to 31-9-4-2 on the season.

NEXT GAME: The Firebirds head to Ontario for a rematch with the Reign on Wednesday, February 22nd. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm PT.
