Riverside County District Attorney’s Office warns against scams targeting seniors

The Riverside County District Attorney's Office is warning that the top targets of scammers are seniors.

The rise of senior scams is part of the reason why the District Attorney's Office opened their Elder Abuse Unit.

The office has identified the top scams affecting seniors:

Adrian Armstrong, a Riverside County Deputy District Attorney, says that the "caretaker scam" is the most common and troubling scam of them all.

“Once you let someone close in, they have access, they can gain access to your bank accounts, your credit card information. I think they're the most insidious because they're saying that they're there to hurt you, all the while they're hurting you," said Armstrong.

If you or a loved one fall victim to a scam, the District Attorney's Office recommends that you call the Riverside County Adult Protective Service Hotline at (800) 491-7123.
