Man dies after medical emergency leads to crash in Palm Springs Monday morning

A driver was pronounced dead, and police planned to close two Palm Springs roadways for up to two hours Monday morning following a traffic collision on E. Palm Canyon Drive and S. Sunrise Way.

That's where a driver hit a traffic signal light pole at 8:24 a.m., according to police, and then hit a parked vehicle.

"The victim was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased shortly after 8:30," said a department spokeswoman, Tamara Damante. "But the driver appeared to have had a possible medical emergency, prior to hitting a traffic signal," Damante added.

No one else was hurt.

There was no immediate word on the driver's identity.

Both roads were closed until 11:00 a.m.
