Student-Athlete of the Week – Coby Christensen

"I'm in my 13th year of doing this and he's by far, by far, the best scorer that I've been around. He just has a natural ability to make shots and that comes from hours and hours of him being in the gym," said Sobczyk. "He's just a very confident young man."

What are you trying to accomplish when you're on the basketball court?

"The goal is to win as many games as we can," said Christensen. "I missed last year with an injury. So, coming back this year, we want to make a deep run in the playoffs and win as many games as we can."

"A lot of kids these days, they they play the game, but they don't watch it. They don't study it. He's the guy that's watching film. He's watching NBA games, he's watching NCAA games," said Sobczyk. "We have those conversations that I can't have with other players, because they just don't watch it or necessarily love it like he does. So, he is a basketball junkie. It's a good way to put it."

Christensen has a career high 41 points in a game, but he's already had a 39 point performance just here in the last two weeks. So I asked him who he models his game after.

"My name is Coby so obviously that's one guy that obviously I've watched a lot of film on. But Steph Curry, you know, he changed the game forever for a kid like me. So that's probably one of the main guys that I've watched a lot," said Christensen.

You vs Steph Curry, 10 threes. Who's making more?

"Man, that's the goat but I got to take me. I'm confident," said Christensen.

Christensen is primed for a statement season. With someone that can score whenever he wants, Coach Sobczyk said he and Coby have the same mindset. Win games.

"When he made his way over here, he and I built a great relationship. He's a great young man. He's a hard worker and just loves basketball," said Sobczyk. "He's in the gym 24/7 and I've shared that mutual bond of just the love for the game and I think you know he and I became really close over these last two years."

"I've loved every minute of being here," said Christensen. "The school is great, campus is great, my coaches and staff are great, so it's been nothing but love."
