Thousands take part in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Pilgrimage across Coachella Valley

Thousands of Catholics took part in The Our Lady of Guadalupe Pilgrimage across the Coachella Valley on Tuesday.

The Our Lady of Guadalupe Pilgrimage is celebrated globally; many consider the trek to the Virgin Guadalupe in Mexico City as the ultimate honor and sacrifice.

After a 5:00 a.m. mass service, the pilgrimage walk will began at 6:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Solitude in Palm Springs.

While local participants don't walk for days like they do in Mexico City, many do walk for over 32 miles in 13 hours to celebrate the Catholic tradition which honors the Virgin Guadalupe. Their journey ends at the Valley Missionary Program in Coachella.

Local law enforcement escorted the pilgrims and several road closures were in effect for the event.
