Homicide investigation underway in Coachella, person dead from injuries

UPDATE [5:17 a.m.] : The Riverside County Sheriff's Department says that there are no additional details on this ongoing investigation at this time. Stay with News Channel 3 for further updates.

A homicide investigation was underway near the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Coachella on Ave 48 and Jackson Street Sunday night.

Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies tell News Channel 3 that they got the call around 5:52 p.m. Sunday.

When Deputies arrived at the scene, they found a person on the ground with "significant injuries." Deputies say that CalFire began lifesaving measures but that the person died on scene.

During the investigation, Deputies say that they learned that the suspect had fled the area. They were able to find that suspect and take them into custody.

Sergeant Deirdre Vickers with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said "There is no threat to the public. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional details are available."

The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit is conducting the investigation.
