Original Report 2/5/24
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was set to be closed Monday, Feb. 5 through Wednesday, Feb. 7 for storm-related road repairs.
A statement from the tramway's operator apologized for the closure and said the tentative reopening date would be Thursday, Feb.8.
Temporary road repairs were completed Friday following storm damage allowing the popular attraction to stay open with its regular weekend hours of the first car up the mountain at 8:00 a.m. and the last car up the mountain at 8:00 p.m. The tram's last car down was at 9:30 p.m.
A statement said, "We regret the inconvenience this closure is causing our Tramway visitors and look forward to welcoming guests back upon completion of these necessary road repairs."
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the world’s largest rotating tram car. It opened in 1963. The Tram’s 80-passenger cars travel up and down the cliffs of Chino Canyon from the Valley Station (elevation 2,643 ft.) to the Mountain Station (elevation 8,516 ft.) in approximately 10 minutes.
