Garbage truck strikes archway shutting down portion of Madison Street in Indio

An early morning traffic accident has shut down a portion of Madison Street in the city of Indio on Thursday.

According to Ben Guitron, Indio Police Spokesperson, just before 9:00 am, A Burrtec garbage truck struck a decorative archway, in the area of Madison Street, between Avenue 48 and Avenue 49. The archway was damaged during the crash, making it unsafe to drive through that intersection. The driver was not injured.

Indio Police and City Safety Inspectors are on scene to determine if the roadway can be safely opened, but at this time the intersection remains closed to most traffic.

Residents who live in the area are allowed to access Southbound lanes at this time.

The intersection is also an access point during festival season which begins next week in the City of Indio. If city crews determine that the intersection is not safe, alternative measures may have to be put in place.
