11 candidates vie for open Cathedral City Council seat

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (KESQ) – The open council seat in Cathedral City is one step closer to being filled. Candidates vying to fill the District 3 seat, left vacant after the death of long time councilmember Mark Carnevale, had until Tuesday to file candidate applications.
Carnevale died in November and after a vote by the council they determined the best way to fill the open seat was to appoint a new member using an interview process.
According to the City Clerk, 11 candidates have applied to fill the seat:
- Daniel H. Brumer
- Stephen Burchard
- Jason Clauson
- Ava Dupree-Holmes
- Teresa Garay
- Colby Gregory
- Christina Gordon
- Sunshine Herrera
- Raymond Manriquez
- Jennifer Novak
- Albert Ruiz
A 12th person applied, Joe Camanero; however, he withdrew on Jan. 7.
Qualifying candidates will be invited to a special council meeting at 3 p.m. on January 7th where they will be interviewed. News Channel 3 will continue to follow this story.
