Firebirds suffer largest loss in franchise history to first-place Ontario Reign

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) -- The Ontario Reign showed why they're the team to beat in the Pacific Division on Wednesday night at Acrisure Arena.

The first-place Reign routed the Firebirds 7-0 for the largest loss in franchise history. It's the fifth time this season the Firebirds have allowed six goals or more.

Granted, the Firebirds played tonight's game shorthanded, with many top players unavailable due to injury.

Prior to tonight's loss, the Firebirds had won five straight games and nine of their last 10.

Coachella Valley will look to regroup on the road with two games in Abbotsford against the reigning Calder Cup champion Canucks. Both games, Friday and Saturday, are at 7pm local time.

With just eight games remaining in the regular season, the Firebirds are 4th in the Pacific Division with 79 points.
