Indio advances progress with police headquarters

INDIO, Calif. (KESQ) - Indio officials announced today that it will move forward with a $45 million state-of-the-art police headquarters that was anticipated to be completed in spring 2028.

"This new police headquarters is a critical step in ensuring our city remains safe, resilient and well-prepared to serve our residents for generations to come,'' Mayor Elaine Holmes said in a statement.

The campus will include modern amenities, including locker rooms, workstations ,offices, a gym, a training area and meeting and interview rooms for all of the police department's personnel.

A timeline for the completion of the headquarters includes:
   -- mobilization for construction set in spring 2026,
   -- groundbreaking ceremony held in summer 2026.
   -- a beam signing for fall 2026,
   -- building completion and ribbon cutting slated for winter of 2027-2028, and
   -- demolition of old building and project completion by spring 2028.  

"As our city continues to grow, so does the demand for high-quality public safety services. It will give our officers and staff the tools they need to best serve our community and maintain the highest level of service for our residents and those visiting the city of Indio year-round,'' Police Chief Brian Tully said.
