Inside Palm Springs’ real time intelligence center: police answer questions over cameras, privacy

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) — Palm Springs residents are getting an inside look Thursday at the technology police use to investigate crimes and track vehicles — as questions continue over privacy and access to information collected by the city's license plate reader cameras.

The Palm Springs Police Department is opening its Real Time Intelligence Center to community members, demonstrating how its Flock cameras and other technology are used while explaining the policies governing who can access the information. 

News Channel 3 is speaking with police and residents attending the tour about whether seeing the technology firsthand changes concerns about surveillance and privacy.
