Desert Hot Springs students get hands-on look at aviation careers

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ)- Desert Hot Springs High School students got a firsthand look at careers in aviation Wednesday through Palm Springs Unified School District’s Aviation Awareness Program.

Students spent four classroom sessions learning about different parts of the aviation industry, including aircraft maintenance, air traffic control and piloting.

The program wrapped up at the Palm Springs Air Museum, where five students took part in a flight experience alongside an Air Museum pilot and a district administrator.

The program was first piloted last school year with Rancho Mirage High School students. This year, PSUSD is expanding it to groups from all of its high schools.

Four additional Desert Hot Springs High School students are scheduled to take part in the flight experience on Oct. 7.

The goal is to give students both classroom knowledge and hands-on exposure to aviation while introducing them to possible career paths in the industry.
