Marsha P. Johnson LGBTQ Youth Drop-In Center to open in Palm Springs

The Marsha P. Johnson LGBTQ+ Youth Drop-In Center will open this weekend in Palm Springs.

The Marsha P. Johnson Center aims to be a safe haven and resource for students between the ages of 13 and 18.

It will be located on Farrel Drive near Palm Springs High School and provide an array of services, including counseling and support groups.

Renae Punzalan, the director of outreach for the Transgender Health & Wellness Center said the center will be a safe haven for LGBTQ+ teens.

It will help students who have been victims of transphobic or homophobic abuse at home or school as well as those who are at risk of homelessness.

"To me it's important so that youth know there's a place they can come to and be themselves, and that's why we opened it," Punzalan said.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 21 at 12 PM at the center, which is located at 340 S. Farrel Drive, Suite A106, Palm Springs, CA 92262.
