DHSHS student learn about the devastating impacts of drunk driving

Thursday morning, students and faculty from Desert Hot Springs High School participated in the "Every 15 Minutes" program.

Desert Hot Springs Police Dept. partnered with the California Highway Patrol to simulate a drunk driving collision to raise awareness of the devastating impacts of drunk driving.

The event included mock emergency responses from first responders just like an actual collision would require.

"So looking across the students, I saw a lot of different emotions and I saw a lot of crying. I saw a lot of pain in their faces. And I think when this kind of event happens, they start to think a little bit more in-depth. And maybe they did have a death in their family that they're thinking about. Maybe they were affected by a drunk, a drunk driving crash, or maybe they're just empathetic to what's going on," said Amslae Darden of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The program concluded with a mock funeral and assembly for students.
