Juvenile suspect re-arrested in Indio after escape

UPDATE: A Riverside County Sheriffs Department detective confirmed a juvenile escapee has been taken back into custody.

The detective told News Channel 3 that the juvenile was in the custody of a probation officer before escaping from the courthouse.

Kevin Slusarski, public information specialist for the Riverside County Probation Department, confirmed that the juvenile, identified only as a male youth from Indio Juvenile Hall, was in court attending a hearing.

Slusarski said that the juvenile fled out of the courtroom through one of the back doors at approximately 10 a.m. The young suspect was safely detained and returned to Indio Juvenile Hall at 11:30 a.m. with assistance from the Sheriff's Department and Indio Police Department.


ORIGINAL STORY: Indio Police confirm that several police agencies are trying to locate a juvenile probationer near the Larson Justice Center.

Indio Police says the search got underway just before 10:30 a.m. and there are reportedly no road closures in the area at this time.
