Crews to strengthen containment lines of fire burning near Thermal, 60% contained.

Monday update at 11:00 a.m.

On Monday morning, Cal Fire said the fire was 60% contained with 37 acres mapped.

Cal Fire said firefighters would remain on-scene throughout the day. They would continue to strengthen containment lines and mop-up hot spots.

Update on Sunday at 10:45 p.m.

Cal Fire said Sunday morning that the 64 acre fire was 10% contained.

A better location of the fire was reportedly in the area of Johnson Street and 81st Avenue in Mecca.

Initially, Cal Fire said the blaze was 150 acres but said the change in size was due to 'updated mapping.'

Cal Fire reported two small outbuildings were destroyed Saturday night in the fire.

There were no evacuations or injuries reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Update on Sunday at 8:51 a.m.

The Johnson Fire was 64 acres and 10 percent contained as of Sunday morning. There are currently no reported injuries or evacuations.

Update on Saturday at 10:30 p.m.

Cal Fire reported the Johnson Fire near Johnson Street and 81st Avenue was 150 acres and 10 percent contained. Stay with News Channel 3 for updates.

Update on Saturday at 9:00 p.m.

The County of Riverside Transportation Department said the following locations were closed at 7:20 p.m. due to the wildfire:

-81st Ave between SR 8 and Johnson St

-82nd Ave between Johnson St and Lincoln St

-Johnson St between 81st Ave and 84th Ave

-84th Ave between SR 86 and Johnson St.

A spokeswoman for Cal Fire said crews were battling a 150 acre brush fire that broke out Saturday afternoon in Thermal.

It was reported after 4:15 p.m. off Johnson Street near 59th Avenue.

As of 6:30 p.m., Cal Fire said there was no containment.

A spokesperson with CHP said there was a hard closure happening at 81st and Lincoln off Highway 86.
