Kim Waltrip honored with star on Palm Springs Walk of the Stars

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) --  Film producer, director, and philanthropist Kim Waltrip is now permanently etched into the heart of downtown Palm Springs.

Waltrip received the 487th star on the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars during a dedication ceremony Friday afternoon along South Palm Canyon Drive.

She was recognized in the categories of entertainment and humanitarian for both her contributions to the film industry and her decades of community involvement in the Coachella Valley.

Throughout her career, Waltrip has worked on a range of film projects, including “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby,” “Hit and Run,” and “7 Days to Vegas.” But beyond her work in Hollywood, she has built a reputation locally for her philanthropic efforts and support of the arts.

Waltrip has held leadership roles with several organizations, including Olive Crest, Tour de Palm Springs, and the American Cancer Society’s Desert Spirit Gala.

She is also a longtime board member of Palm Springs Women in Film and Television and the founder of the Kim Waltrip Filmmakers Lab, which supports emerging creatives.

In addition, she has served as a juror for the Palm Springs International Film Festival and has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Desert Visionary Award, Entrepreneur of the Year by Palm Springs Life, and Congressional recognition for her community service.

City leaders say Waltrip’s impact has helped shape both the cultural and civic landscape of Palm Springs since she first became involved in the community in the late 1980s.
