Hockey Sunday: Firebirds begin training camp, NHL makes debut at Acrisure Arena

After just four months away, hockey has returned to the desert in a big way.

Sunday, Oct. 1 was a full day of professional hockey.

In the morning, the Coachella Valley Firebirds began training camp ahead of their second season as an AHL franchise.

In the afternoon, the Arizona Coyotes and Anaheim Ducks competed in the first-ever NHL preseason game in the valley.

Firebirds head coach Dan Bylsma, a former Mighty Duck (2000-04), said it's great to see the NHL come to the Coachella Valley.

The Ducks stormed back late, scoring two goals in the final seconds to stun the Coyotes, 5-4 the final.
