Firebirds defeat Canucks 2-1 to sweep weekend series

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) - The Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Abbotsford Canucks 2-1 on Sunday at the Rogers Forum.

The Canucks struck first in the middle frame. Ben Berard scored his sixth goal of the season three minutes and nine seconds into the second.

The Firebirds answered with a short-handed goal. J.R. Avon buried his sixth goal of the year, making the game even at one.

In the third, Ben Meyers sniped in the go-ahead and final goal of the game.

Victor Ostman started for CV and saved 25 shots on goal.

Firebirds improve to a 12-6-3 record on the year. Coachella Valley will remain on the road and play the Calgary Wranglers on Tuesday, December 9th. Puck drop will be at 6 PM.
