Firebirds fall 3-2 to Reign in first meeting this season

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) - The Coachella Valley Firebirds lost to the Ontario Reign 3-2 on Saturday at Toyota Arena.

The Firebirds opened the scoring in the first period. Ian McKinnon buried his second goal of the year for the early 1-0 lead.

The Reign tallied the equalizer to close the opening period, but the birds answered right back in the middle frame. Carson Rehkopf found the back of the net for the fifth time this season, placing Coachella Valley in front by one.

Cole Guttman and Kirill Kirsanov buried the final two goals for Ontario to hand the Firebirds a 3-2 loss.

Victor Ostman started in net for CV and saved 22 shots on goal.

The Firebirds fall to a 16-11-4 record on the season. Coachella Valley will return home and play the Henderson Silver Knights on Wednesday, January 7th. Puck drop is at 6:30 PM.
