Firebirds split two-game series with 4-3 overtime loss to Roadrunners
THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) The Coachella Valley Firebirds lost to the Tucson Roadrunners 4-3 in overtime on Saturday at Tucson Convention Center Arena.
The Firebirds came out on a heater in the opening period. The birds took a 2-0 lead with goals from Oscar Fisker Molgaard and Logan Morrison.
To close the first, Tucson got on the board by Daniil But.
In the second, John Hayden helped the Firebirds extend their lead to two in only four minutes. But struck once more for the Roadrunners to trail 3-2.
In the final frame, Tucson held CV scoreless. Ryan McGregor not only scored the equalizer but also tallied his first goal of the year.
In overtime, But scored the game-winning goal and completed a hat trick.
Victor Ostman started in net for CV and saved 30 shots on goal.
Firebirds fall to a 5-4-2-0 record on the year. CV will return home and play the Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday, November 11th. Puck drop will be at 6:30 PM.
