Jacob Melanson’s hat trick lifts Firebirds over Canucks in 5-2 victory

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) The Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Abbotsford Canucks 5-2 on Sunday at Acrisure Arena.

In the first, Jonathan Lekkerimäki scored and gave the Canucks an early 1-0 lead.

From then on, the Firebirds scored four unanswered goals. Two came from Jacob Melanson, and the other two were from Jagger Firkus and Tyson Jugnauth.

Ben Berard scored the second goal for Abbotsford to trail 4-2, but Melanson would extend the lead back to three and complete the hat trick.

Victor Ostman started in the net for CV and saved 18 shots on goal.

Firebirds improve to 7-5-2. Coachella Valley will remain at home and play the San Diego Gulls on Friday, November 21st. Puck drop is at 7 PM.
