Tracking rain and snow during the Thanksgiving holiday

A High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory remain in effect for the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas through 7 p.m. this evening. The mustard yellow color indicates the warning where westerly winds will be between 35-50 mph and gusts will reach up to 75 mph. The tan color is the advisory where westerly winds will be from 20-30 mph with gusts reaching up to 55 mph. These gusty winds are lowering visibility due to blowing sand and dust. Drive cautiously through the evening.

Cold temperatures are on the way along with rain and snow chances for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Beginning at 4 a.m. Wednesday a Winter Storm Warning goes into effect and lasts through 10 p.m. Friday. Rain for the desert will reach between 0.5"-1" during this time period. Snow elevations will drop down to 3000 ft. where 1"-3" will be possible. Between 4000 - 5500 ft. in elevation 3"-6" of snowfall will be possible. Travel will be difficult during the Thanksgiving time period. If you are driving to or through the mountains make sure you have an emergency supply kit with you and allow for extra time to get from point A to point B.

Temperatures will cool into the 50's with some areas seeing lows in the upper 30's waking up Friday morning.
