First Alert Weather Alert: Road closures and reduced air quality

A First Alert Weather Alert is in place through late Friday night, as gusty west winds will impact travel, air quality, and visibility.

Due to the gusty winds, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 11:00 p.m. The strongest gusts are expected in the afternoon and evening.

Road closures at the wash due to blowing sand and dust are expected. Here's the latest as of 3:00 p.m. Friday:

In addition, thanks to the blowing sand and dust, the South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a Windblown Dust Advisory through tonight. 'Hazardous' PM10 levels were still being measured Friday afternoon. Check the current air quality conditions here.

The low-pressure system moving across California is bringing light rain to the west, but the strong west winds could bring some drops to the desert floor this evening. Accumulation will be minimal, if any.

The tradeoff to the wind is cooler temperatures. As the low-pressure system moves across Southern California, highs have peaked in the low 80s today. Wind speeds will gradually ease, and temperatures rebound through the weekend.
