Extended stretch of above-average warmth

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – We're continuing to settle into a long stretch of October heat!

This heat wave is widespread; the entirety of Southern California is seeing pretty hot conditions... depending on where you are, some spots are seeing highs close to 15°F warmer than normal. It's less intense for the mountains and deserts, which is why the Extreme Heat Warning is for locations west of the mountains & closer to the coast. That's set to expire Thursday night. A short-lived Wind Advisory is in place for our local mountain communities and the Banning Pass, but should expire 6PM tonight.

High pressure will remain anchored over the west for the next few days, so similar conditions are likely as we move into next week. That means above-average warmth for much of the West.

Locally, that means we'll be seeing highs about 5-10°F above average. In Palm Springs, we expect to warm past the century mark for your Sunday.

We'll maintain temperatures above 100°F over the next week. Peak heat arrives as we continue warming through the middle of the week – Thursday's forecast brings us near 105°F.
