Local Red Cross worker heads to Texas for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

Before Hurricane Harvey made landfall, a local man already started his trek to Texas to help those affected.

Brian Daly, Director of Major Gifts and Financial Development with American Red Cross of Coachella Valley 7 Morongo Basin, says he is expecting to arrive in Houston early Saturday morning.

The news came just hours after KESQ and CBS Local 2 met with organizers from The American Red Cross of the Coachella Valley & Morongo Basin. They spent much of Friday gearing up in anticipation of helping with relief efforts with Hurricane Harvey.

Lois Beckman, Executive Director of the chapter, says volunteers are on standby to help assist when the call comes. She said emergency supplies have been prepared to distribute to the victims of the hurricane when needed.

The local chapter has recently been deployed to various relief efforts including the Blue Cut Fire back in August 2016 in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Beckman said the chapter is ready to send any reinforcements the south Texas chapters may need to assist victims.

She suggests if people would like to help the victims of the hurricane, they can do so in one of two ways. They can donate money to the Red Cross here, or become a volunteer to help with relief efforts. Information on becoming a volunteer can be found here.
