Convicted sex offender pleads not guilty to exposure charges
A 71-year-old convicted sex offender, accused of exposing himself to a 5-year-old girl in a store in Palm Desert one week after completing parole, pleaded not guilty to several felony charges Monday.
Roger David Faber of Sky Valley is accused of exposing himself to the girl on August 17 at Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Westfield Palm Desert mall, one week after being discharged from parole following time served in prison for a similar crime at a Target store in La Quinta.
Sheriff’s deputies say that at about 1:30 p.m. the girl told her mother and deputies that a man inside the store showed her his “front bottom spot,” which deputies allegedly corroborated by reviewing store surveillance footage, according to an arrest warrant declaration.
Faber was allegedly seen in the footage “manipulating the front (groin) area of his pants” while the girl was facing him, then exposing himself to her. Tattoos on his forearms aided deputies in positively identifying him.
Faber, who had been discharged from parole on August 10, pleaded guilty in 2007 to exposing himself and brushing his genitals up against young girls at the La Quinta Target store, the declaration states.
He was arrested last Thursday on Pacific Coast Highway in Torrance.
Faber was being held in lieu of $1 million bail and was set to return to an Indio courtroom September 7 on charges of indecent exposure, child annoyance and failure to register as a sex offender.
