Firefighters contain van fire in downtown Palm Springs

Firefighters worked to contain a van and palm tree fire on Thursday morning in downtown Palm Springs.

Fire crews responded to N. Palm Canyon Dr. near Tahquitz Canyon Way at 7:59 a.m.

The van was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and those flames extended to a nearby palm tree. Nearby roads were closed down while crews battled the blaze.

The fire was eventually contained.

Roads reopened just before 9:30 a.m.

No structures were threatened, and no word yet on the cause of the fire.
