Authorities identify teen killed in crash at storm-related closure in Desert Hot Springs
Authorities today identified a 17-year-old boy who died in a crash at a storm-related closure last week in Desert Hot Springs.
The Riverside County coroner's office identified him as Elijah Garcia of Desert Hot Springs.
On Aug. 23, Garcia was driving a 2012 silver Honda southbound on Little Morongo Road at an unknown speed before crashing, California Highway Patrol spokesman David Torres told City News Service.
"Prior to this location there are road closure signs due to Little Morongo being washing and inaccessible to the public,'' Torres told CNS. "The Honda crashed into a dirt berm, landed on the other side of the berm and caught on fire."
Garcia was injured at 5:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:40 a.m., according to coroner's officials.
