Gun-rights advocates protest New Mexico governor’s order suspending right to bear arms in public

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Some demonstrators are defiantly carrying holstered handguns on their hips in a rally by gun-rights advocates. They are protesting Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s surprise order last week to temporarily suspend the right to carry firearms to address what she called an epidemic of gun violence. Many of the 70 people gathered Tuesday on Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza wore T-shirts in support of the right to bear arms, while others waved American flags and held signs reading: “Do Not Comply. ”New Mexico’s governor has ignited a firestorm after she suspended the right to carry guns around Albuquerque. Several lawsuits have been filed.
