CHAHAK, Afghanistan (AP) — Another strong earthquake has shaken western Afghanistan days after one of the most destructive quakes in the country’s recent history. Saturday’s temblors killed more than 2,000 people and flattened whole villages in Herat province. Wednesday’s magnitude 6.3 earthquake was centered about 17 miles from the provincial capital, and the Afghan Taliban government said at least one person died and around 120 others were injured. The quake also flattened all 700 homes in Chahak village, which was untouched by the earlier tremors. The village did not report any deaths from the latest quake, in part because people have taken shelter in tents this week rather than staying indoors as aftershocks continue.
