Landslide in China buries 47 people in freezing temperatures and snow. Two survivors are found
BEIJING (AP) — Chinese state media say a landslide buried 47 people in a remote village in the mountainous southwestern province of Yunnan. Hours later, two survivors were rescued amid freezing temperatures and falling snow and reports said nine bodies were retrieved. The disaster struck just before 6 a.m. on Monday in the village of Liangshui in the northeastern part of Yunnane. About 500 people were evacuated from the area. Local authorities said the victims were buried in some 18 separate houses. Survivors and rescuers were dealing with snow and freezing temperatures that were forecast to persist for at least the next three days.
