JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Law enforcement officials have surged local, state and federal resources to Mississippi’s capital city for a new operation aimed at curbing crime. Gov. Tate Reeves and other officials provided few details Tuesday on what the operation would entail on the ground. But they said Jackson would see an increased police presence. The city has nation-leading homicide statistics. Reeves, a Republican, and Jackson’s Democratic Mayor, Chokwe Antar Lumumba, say they have come together around Operation Unified. Reeves says the initiative targets drug traffickers and violent criminals. It began last month with help of numerous state and federal agencies.
