Coastal rain and a chance of showers here in the valley

A significant coastal storms has brought rain along Coastal areas to our North through the weekend and continues today.

Once again, that low pressure system is tapping into the Atmospheric River of moisture that exists in the mid levels of the atmosphere over SoCal. That means enhanced rainfall from the Central Coast through Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Flooding already taking place from south of Salinas all the way down to Oxnard, where heavier rain has been falling. That rain will move slowly inland as that low pressure moves East.

Rainfall estimates for the region include very light rain spread over a couple of days for the Coachella valley, especially West Valley locations. Heavy rain is possible in the San Bernardino Mountains, along with snow at the higher elevations. Here are those exstimates:

Orange County/western Inland Empire: 1.5-2 inches
Eastern Inland Empire: 1-1.5 inches
San Diego County coasts/valleys: 0.6-1.3 inches, highest north
San Bernardino Mountains: 1.5-3 inches, locally 5 inches or more
Riverside/San Diego Mountains: 0.7-1.8 inches
High desert: 0.25-0.6 inch
Low deserts: 0.05-0.2 inch

Best chance of showers is Tuesday, with a few showers lingering into early Wednesday as the system slowly departs. Highs drop to the upper 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday before returning to normal for the end of the week.
