WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is taking up former President Donald Trump’s bid to avoid prosecution over his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden. Trump and his legal team are putting to the test the foundational belief that no one is above the law, not even the president. The Supreme Court hears the case Thursday. Even if the Supreme Court agrees with lower courts that have rejected Trump’s claim, the timing of its decision may be as important as the outcome. The presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee wants to delay the trial until after the November election. The later the justices issue their decision, the more likely Trump is to succeed.
