Crews battle 20-acre brush fire late Friday night in Cathedral City

Updated post at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday:

An official with Cathedral City Fire Department said crews were called out for a brush fire with a rapid rate of spread at the south end of Perez Road and south of Highway 111. When firefighters arrived, they saw about a 20-acre fire moving towards a national monument, so additional resources were called in. Officials from Palm Springs Fire and Cal Fire assisted. The forward rate of spread was stopped in about an hour; the blaze was about 80-90% contained by late Friday night, according to the official.

A local arson investigator was reportedly on scene late Friday night to determine a possible source of the fire.

No property damage was reported and no word on injuries.
