Fundraising efforts continue for Palm Desert mother who suffered brain aneurysm in Texas

Earlier this month, News Channel Three reported on the fundraising efforts to bring home Melissa Garcia-Wolensky, after she suffered a brain aneurysm in Texas.

She has two sons and two daughters. The Wolensky family are well-known Firebirds fans.

After visiting Texas to see one of her sons graduate from Air Force Basic Training in San Antonio, she suffered a medical emergency.

She was flown from Texas earlier this month to a hospital in Perris. While she's closer to home now, the hospital doesn't allow her daughters to see her.

Her husband, Joey Wolensky, hopes she can be transferred to a closer hospital in the coming weeks.

"They don't know how to express it with words, words, but then you express it with expressions and they express a lot lately. The three-year-old knows [but] can’t explain it, and the six-year-old is managing like the big girl she's supposed to be," says Joey Wolensky of his two daughters, who badly want to see their mother.

Today, the community is organizing a fundraiser at Maracas Mexican Cantina & Grill to bring her closer to home and help with her medical bills.

The fundraiser will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 20% of the proceeds from today's sales will go to Melissa's family.

A previous GoFundMe to bring her from Texas to California raised nearly $30,000. Her family has set up a second GoFundMe to help support her growing medical bills and to bring her closer to home in the Coachella Valley.
