BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Dozens of European leaders will be assessing a new global outlook during a one-day summit in Hungary’s capital. They will do so on Thursday, knowing that the election of Donald Trump as the next U.S. president could have far-reaching consequences for the continent. All eyes will be glued on Washington to see whether the return of Trump will cause political strife throughout Europe much like his first presidency did. It was already beyond doubt that the trans-Atlantic relationship would change after Tuesday’s vote. But the question is whether that change might be seismic under Trump’s second presidency.
