Skateboarder killed in crash near Desert Hot Springs

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - A skateboarder was killed in a crash Friday evening in unincorporated Desert Hot Springs Friday evening.

The crash was reported at around 6:20 p.m. near Mountain View Road and Dillon Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers learned that a driver decided to unsafely pass a slower-moving vehicle over solid double yellow lines and subsequently struck the pedestrian riding the skateboard.

The skateboarder, identified as a male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, CHP confirmed. It does not appear alcohol and or drugs are a contributing factor at this time

Viewers report that the roads in the area are blocked off with a heavy police presence.
