Reports of possible ICE activity raise concerns across Coachella Valley
COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - Reports of possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity across the Coachella Valley are raising renewed safety concerns for some community members.
Viewers have shared videos and photos on social media and sent them to the News Channel 3 newsroom, reporting alleged ICE or Border Patrol activity. At this time, News Channel 3 has not been able to independently confirm the presence of ICE agents or any official enforcement operations.
In response to the reports, local leaders are speaking out. Indio City Councilmember Oscar Ortiz posted a video to social media addressing at least one reported incident and directing families to immigration-related resources.
U.S. Representative Raul Ruiz also released a statement addressing the reports, saying in part, “These cruel, indiscriminate, massive deportations targeting non-criminal immigrants. These raids are creating fear across our communities, hurting local businesses, and tearing families apart. This approach is wrong and must stop.”
News Channel 3 will continue to follow developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
