Firebirds fall 6-3 to Silver Knights to split the weekend series

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) - The Coachella Valley Firebirds fell to the Henderson Silver Knights 6-3 on Sunday night at the Lee's Family Forum.

The Silver Knights held the Firebirds scoreless and added one goal in the opening period.

In the second, the birds wasted no time and made the game even at one with Jagger Firkus' 14th goal of the season.

Henderson scored two unanswered goals, but Coachella Valley had an answer right away.

Mitchell Stephens buried his sixth goal of the year to trail 3-2.

The Silver Knights closed out the middle frame with one final goal to take a two-goal lead.

At the start of the third, Carson Rehkopf tallied his fourth goal of the season and placed the Firebirds one goal closer to Henderson.

The silver and black added another pair of goals after Rehkopf's goal to seal a 6-3 final.

Victor Ostman started in net for CV and saved 24 shots on goal.

The Firebirds fall to a 15-9-4 record on the season. Coachella Valley will return home and play the Bakersfield Condors on Wednesday, December 31st. Puck drop is at 5 PM.
