Breezy weather persists this weekend

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – Good morning, Coachella Valley! It's a chilly one as our temperatures have dipped into the 40s overnight.

Winds have been top of mind over the past few days. The weekend is bringing some additional breezes, but the gustier weather is mostly shaping up outside of the valley floor. Through the weekend, gusts should stay below 25 MPH for most desert cities, but do mind windier weather in spots like Desert Hot Springs and the San Gorgonio Pass. A look from our FutureTrack models indicate wind gusts in the ballpark of 50 MPH through the passes at times on Saturday – here's what to expect around lunchtime.

Those winds linger for Sunday, too.

A few wind-related advisories remain in place as the winds linger. Desert Hot Springs and the San Gorgonio Pass are under a High Wind Warning until Sunday afternoon. The Weather Service cautions isolated gusts near 70 MPH are possible through the Pass, especially late Saturday into early Sunday. A Wind Advisory is also in place for our local Riverside County mountains, also until Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The winds are continuing to limit our warming. Highs today should remain a tick below our seasonal average of 70° – expect another day in the 60s for most spots.

Winds and cooler temperatures stick with us through Sunday, but as the breezes begin to mellow out, we'll gradually warm back into the 70s. All signs are pointing towards 80s by the middle of next week, too – a return to our desert warmth... that's something I'm excited for!
