One person dead after a shooting near Mecca Sports Complex

MECCA, Calif. (KESQ) - Deputies found a person with gunshot wounds near the Mecca Sports Complex Tuesday night.

The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. in the area of Coahuilla Street and 6^th Street, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office confirmed to News Channel 3.

Our team on-site confirmed a fatality.

There was no word on whether any arrests had been made.

Witnesses told a News Channel 3 crew at the scene that they heard over 30 shots fired.

Deputies are currently on scene, and a helicopter was seen circling the area. They had surrounded the area and established a perimeter with Date Palm Street closed.

The investigation remained active and ongoing.
