Firefighters stop vegetation fire in Thermal

THERMAL, Calif. (KESQ) – Firefighters gained the upper hand on a vegetation fire that torched three acres in the east valley Saturday evening.

Officials reported forward progress was stopped at 8:38 p.m., about an hour after it was first reported in Thermal. Crews are expected to stay on scene as they mop up throughout the evening.

According to CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department on X, the fire was first reported at 7:36 p.m.

Officials said the fire was burning near the 88000 block of Avenue 69, near Fillmore Street. No evacuations or damage was reported.

The fire burned as high winds in the ballpark of 40-50 MPH were expected to strengthen into the night.
