PSUSD launches new attendance texting system to better support families

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) — Palm Springs Unified School District is launching a new attendance communication system that will replace automated absence phone calls with text messages, giving parents a quicker way to respond directly to their child’s school.

The district says the change is designed to do more than confirm why a student is absent. Newly hired liaisons will be able to follow up with families who may be dealing with hardships, including a death in the family or other challenges, and connect them with additional resources and support.

News Channel 3 is speaking with parents and district staff about how the new system will work and why officials hope it will strengthen communication with families.
