SD man sentenced 11 months for threats in letter to conservative commentator

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KESQ) - A San Diego man who sent a threatening letter to a conservative political commentator following Charlie Kirk's killing was facing 11 months in federal prison today after being sentenced by a Florida judge.   

George Isbell, 70, admitted to mailing the letter last fall to right- wing media personality Benny Johnson just over a week after Kirk, a friend of Johnson's, was fatally shot at Utah Valley University.

The letter read, "The world has so much hate and pain thanks to people like you and Charlie Kirk,'' and "Here is hoping the American flag strangles the life out of you. My uncle drowned in the Rhine River to defeat fascists like you and I will not let his death be in (vain)."  

It concluded with, "Maybe someone will blow your head off!!! We can hope! Planning any public engagements? Love to see your head explode and your blood stain the concrete red. What a sight!''

Prosecutors wrote in their sentencing papers that numerous unsent "threatening and harassing'' letters were later found in Isbell's home, which were authored to Kirk's widow and some U.S. Congressmembers, among others.   

Isbell pleaded guilty earlier this year in federal court in the Middle District of Florida to one count of mailing a threatening communication and one count of interstate threat to injure. He was sentenced Wednesday by a Florida federal judge.
